Public Holidays in Türkiye 2026 and 2027
Türkiye's 2026 and 2027 public holidays: fixed national days, Ramazan and Kurban Bayramı dates, half-day eves, bridge days, closures and Chinese holiday overlaps.
Türkiye has seven fixed public holidays plus the afternoon of 28 October, set by Law No. 2429, and two religious festivals, Ramazan Bayramı (3.5 days) and Kurban Bayramı (4.5 days), that move about 11 days earlier each year. According to the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), Ramazan Bayramı fell on 20 to 22 March 2026 and Kurban Bayramı on 27 to 30 May 2026; in 2027 they fall on 9 to 11 March and 16 to 19 May. Longer "bridge" breaks are not automatic: the President announces them case by case, and they apply to public employees.

Religious festivals in 2026 and 2027
Both follow the Islamic lunar calendar; Diyanet publishes the dates in advance.
| 2026 | 2027 | |
|---|---|---|
| Ramadan begins (first fast) | Thursday 19 February | Monday 8 February |
| Ramazan Bayramı eve (from 13:00) | Thursday 19 March | Monday 8 March |
| Ramazan Bayramı | Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March | Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March |
| Kurban Bayramı eve (from 13:00) | Tuesday 26 May | Saturday 15 May |
| Kurban Bayramı | Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 May | Sunday 16 to Wednesday 19 May |
In 2027 the fourth day of Kurban Bayramı coincides with 19 May, so no extra day off results.
Half days and bridge holidays
Half days. Law No. 2429 starts Ramazan Bayramı and Kurban Bayramı at 13:00 on the eve, and Republic Day at 13:00 on 28 October. Public offices close at that time, so treat the eve as a morning-only working day.
Bridge holidays. There is no automatic bridge day. When a festival leaves one or two working days before a weekend, the President may grant administrative leave (idari izin) to public employees. On 4 May 2026, after a Cabinet meeting, the President announced leave for Monday 25 May and the morning of Tuesday 26 May, giving public employees a 9-day break from 23 to 31 May 2026. Ramazan Bayramı 2026 ran Friday to Sunday and was not extended. As of mid-October 2026, no leave had been announced for Friday 30 October 2026.
No bridge days have been decided for 2027. Friday 12 March and Thursday 20 to Friday 21 May 2027 are normal working days unless the government announces otherwise.
Private sector. Administrative leave covers public employees only. Under Labour Law No. 4857, whether staff work on national and general holidays is set by the collective or individual employment contract, and without such a clause the employee's consent is needed. Staff who do not work on a holiday are paid for it in full; staff who work receive an extra day's wage for each holiday day worked. Our guide to hiring local staff covers payroll in more detail.
What closes and what stays open
| Service | During holidays and from 13:00 on eves |
|---|---|
| Ministries, tax offices, Göç İdaresi, municipalities | Closed; also closed to the public on announced bridge days for public staff |
| Land Registry (Tapu) | Follows public offices; book title-deed appointments outside holiday windows |
| Courts | No ordinary hearings; ask your lawyer how a holiday affects a deadline |
| Banks | Branches closed; FAST instant payments run 24/7 within limits; EFT transfers made after the cut-off settle on the next business day |
| Hospitals and pharmacies | Emergency departments stay open; duty pharmacies (nöbetçi eczane) rotate |
| Shops, restaurants, hotels, transport | Each business decides; travel demand peaks around the festivals |
Online e-Devlet services stay available, but applications are processed on working days.
Ramadan and working hours
Ramadan runs from 19 February to 19 March 2026 and from 8 February to 8 March 2027. Labour Law No. 4857 has no Ramadan working-hours provision, so offices, banks and courts keep normal hours and any adjustment is the employer's choice. In practice, plan meetings earlier in the day, avoid scheduling business lunches with colleagues who are fasting, and expect heavy traffic before the fast is broken at sunset (iftar). Iftar dinners are often used for business hospitality.
Planning around Chinese holidays
| Chinese holiday | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Spring Festival | 17 February; mainland holiday 15 to 23 February (9 days), with make-up working days on Saturdays 14 and 28 February | Saturday 6 February; Hong Kong general holidays 6, 8 and 9 February; mainland schedule not yet published |
| Labour Day | 1 to 5 May | Starts 1 May; schedule not yet published |
| Mid-Autumn Festival | 25 to 27 September | Schedule not yet published |
| National Day "golden week" | 1 to 7 October, with make-up working days on Sunday 20 September and Saturday 10 October | Starts 1 October (Friday); schedule not yet published |
The State Council published the 2026 arrangements on 4 November 2025, so the 2027 schedule is likely late in 2026.
Where the calendars meet
- February: Ramadan started two days after Lunar New Year in 2026, and in 2027 it starts two days after Lunar New Year again. Set shipping and payment dates around the Chinese break, when suppliers slow down but Turkish offices work.
- March and May: Ramazan Bayramı and Kurban Bayramı close Turkish public offices while China works normally. Finish Land Registry, trade registry and tax office steps before the eve.
- October: China's golden week (1 to 7 October) is followed by Türkiye's Republic Day (28 October afternoon and 29 October). In 2027, 29 October is a Friday.
